Our podiatrist with a wealth of clinical experiences in treating toenails, will initially assess your nails and determine whether it’s Fungal or non-Fungal (Nail thickening without fungus).

He will then discuss with you the most optimal treatment options in eliminating your nail problem. In the case of nail thickening without fungus, he will use a high-powered water grinding drill to reduce the thickness of the nail at the time of consultation (no laser required).

For Fungal nails (Onychomycosis), using advanced K – Laser Cube therapy, our high treatment standard will match your high expectation in eradicating fungal nails. This usually results in achieving successful outcome and satisfaction for both podiatrist and patient.

Unlike many other lasers (Class 2) used in treating fungal nails, K-Laser Cube is a ‘Class 4’ laser machine with the latest innovative technology. It is one of the most powerful, effective, and safe lasers in the world.

Simple, painless but effective method behind K-Laser therapy for Fungal nails is, it uses red and infrared wavelengths of light (laser beam) to target the fungus across the nail bed. By using different wavelengths (660nm ~ 970nm) and pulsing(power), it initially guarantees reduction of the inflammation and afterwards, eradication of the fungus infections with complete disinfection of the treated area.

If it’s untreated, these fungal nails can cause structural damage and further thickening of the nail. Often fungal nails can affect the surrounding skin areas resulting in Tinea Pedis, commonly known as Athelete’s Foot.

Steps involved in K-Laser Therapy for Fungal Nails

Step 1:
Prepare Fungal Toenails (photo taken, Fungal nails cut and thickness reduced)
Step 2:
K-Laser Therapy (laser beams shot all through fungal nails and its nail bed. Mild warm sensation to be expected)
Step 3:
Each foot will take approximately 15mins to treat
Step 4:
New pair of socks recommended post treatment
Step 5:
5. Expectation discussed
Step 6:
Self-management instructions are provided
Step 7:
Review in 1 week time for next Laser session
Step 8:
4-5 sessions required over 6 weeks
Step 9:
Monitor nail growth. (see photos)

K - LASER Fungal Nail Therapy

Research has shown 3-5 Laser treatments will achieve 85% or more rate of total resolution. Efficacy of laser treatment will vary depending on the severity of fungal infection and patient correctly following self-management protocol between the laser sessions. For the best outcome with K-LASER, all patients require 4-5 treatments over a 6 weeks period. Some patients with multiple severe fungal infections may require a few more laser treatments.

Oral Anti-Fungal Medication Efficacy

Research shows when medication is taken daily for 3 months, it is approximately 15-45% effective with recurrence rate of 20-55%. This treatment method may cause side effects such as liver damage and temporary loss of taste.

Anti-Fungal Tinctures and Creams Efficacy

Research shows the effectiveness is only at 5-10% when used daily for 12 months. Many of our patients have unsuccessfully tried this method and often results in skin irritation around the nails.
